Pantomime

Our early ancestors lacked many basic necessities we so often take advantage of. Chief among them was the ability to communicate with words, as the ABCs we know now had yet to be put into practice. In order to express desire, need, or simply connect with another human being, one would communicate with their hands and body movement – the earliest form of mime. Once mankind figured out that talking was a much more efficient way to get the point across, the primitive form of mime fell to the wayside.

Leave it to the god of wine, Dionysus, to resurrect the use of waving your hands wildly. At the Theater of Dionysus in Athens, performers used mime to honor the god of imbibing at festivals in front of thousands of attendants. These performances were known for their dramatic flair, laying the ground work for the modern miming of today.

If you’re looking for a unique way to entertain your guests and liven up an event, mimes never fail to entertain. Available as a solo or duo, these masters of silence juggle, plate spin, and of course, occasionally find themselves trapped in that invisible box. Mimes are available for indoor or outdoor events, and can perform in just about any space.
